vintage collie dog brooch

Another of my dogs but a bit less life like than the lovable Beany. I'm just mooching around today, still a bit shellshocked from my hand in on Friday, but in a good way.

ssssoo, now what?

well, thats it, handed in my Hounours project today, it's a few weeks of waiting for the marks and then some longer term plans have to be made. In the meantime I have a competition to enter, some copy to write and a house to give a serious talking to, can't blame the house, its been neglected for the last year "cos I'm a student". I don't think I'll get away with that one anymore......

on the great roller coaster of degree hopes, stress and deadlines

if you read this say a little prayer for me, its 25 hours til I hand in my final years work and I think its going to be a long night of perserverance and jelly bean sugar injections. I know the 'Everpresent ' (aka Alan) will ensure I'm fed and watered, thank you Al. So I go on the last thundering descent of final work.......

old tinware

something else I like to collect are vintage tins, this one is for gramaphone needles and is only 5cm wide. It still has a couple of rusty ones inside . I especially like the bird motif and the rusted look to it.

Harris Museum

One of the best things about living in Preston is that my local museum is so textile orientated, in the last few years there have been some amazing exhibitions, especially 'Embellished' and 'Shirley Craven and the Hull Traders', the next one I'm off to see is 'Global Threads' which will exhibit work around 18 volumes of Asian designs from the mid 1800's, that were then brought back to Britain for the cotton mills to work with. I know it was a form of intellectual property theft even at that time but all the same, the books are wonderous things. I gave a few hours up to volunteer last summer before Uni started again and will be doing more of the same hopefully once Uni is finished.

not long to go

Honours Project deadline is hurtling towards me, I'm so submerged in work but still feeling positive and  this time next week I will probably be catching up on sleep or mooching around junk shops and boot sales, reading the paper, moving my website on, walking Beany, you know, generally having a life! Anyway always looking forward and to stay on my toes I've signed up for the Sketchbook Project 2012. Apart from ensuring the creative wheels keep turning I'm so excited to be part of such a huge tour. There are loads of themes to choose from but to stay as open as I can I've chosen, 'This is a Sketchbook', although I was very tempted by 'Writing on the Wall', Anyone can take part....http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject

a little bit of what I'm doing now.......

just a small snippet of some work in progress for my Conversations Part II work, paper clay stitched onto muslin and calico with linen then embellished with silk and cotton threads, so much to do for hand in next week, my head is spinning. I almost can't belive that these long, l o n g three years are nearly over!

this is a nice little vintage pin

I visited Niagara Falls when I was 12 and then Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe 34 years later, not sure which one I liked the most but I remember both of them so vividly, I wonder which falls I should visit next? One things for sure, I'll be seeing Canada again within the next two years......

I collect bug brooches. I was lucky enough to be give the  Bee and Butterfly by the wonderful Christopher. Bees seem quite hard to come by though, don't see many of them about. I can see them coming into my art work when I finish University.....can hardly wait.
